A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

Known bugs:

  • The 'How to play' page accidentally shows the text for page 3 first, then when you turn to page 2 it overlaps. This can be cleared by turning to page 3 then turning all the way back and page 1 should show as it is supposed to. I'll fix this after the Jam rating period!

  • The tentacle that spawns on the right side of the screen has powerups for the rest of the level, their timer never expires.



Game made for The Very Serious Juniper Dev Game Jam!

The theme of the jam was: Spin to Win!

In this game you play as a hungry Kraken. Your goal is to eat as many ships as you can before the Fleet arrives to hunt you! You have 2 tentacles above the water, which leave a current trail behind you as you move them. Spin the trail in a circle to create a whirlpool! The whirlpool will destroy any ships it comes in contact with and gains you energy! If you fill your energy bar before the Fleet arrives, you win!

Controls:

  • WASD = move Tentacle #1
  • IJKL or arrow keys = move Tentacle #2
  • E = make Tentacle #1 Dive (Currently has no use, but you can do it!)
  • U or right shift = make Tentacle #2 Dive
  • Enter = restart if you've won or lost
  • ESC = pause
  • Backspace = return to main menu from settings (settings is also pause)
  • Mouse controls = menus only

Info:

  • Bar across the top of the screen is the Fleet timer. You're racing this!
  • Avoid icebergs - they freeze you and destroy your whirlpools!
  • Bar across the bottom is your energy.
  • Level indicator in top right
  • Powerups:
    • Yellow barrels make you temporarily immune to whirlpools
    • Red barrels give a temporary speed boost
    • Purple barrels passively fill energy bar - very powerful!
  • Ships have different properties!
    • Brown ships are basic and give the least energy
    • Purple ships are fast and give slightly more energy
    • Green ships need to hit 2 whirlpools to sink and give the most energy
  • Powerups have a chance to spawn when a ship is destroyed by a whirlpool or an iceberg. Powerup type is based on ship type!

Features to be implemented (hopefully before the Jam ends!):

  • Main Menu Finished!
  • Sound/Music Finished!
  • Tutorial Finished!
  • Animations (Everything is a static sprite right now) I got like 1 done!
  • Icebergs that destroy ships without giving you energy, destroy your whirlpools, and freeze your tentacles! Finished!
  • Multiple levels Finished!
  • Powerups Finished!
  • Mouse controls for menus Finished!
  • Level select screen Finished!
